Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instruction for Improved Health
Many people have heard the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instruction is a rough, physically demanding activity that caters primarily to young guys. However, in the right environment, individuals 40 years and older can effectively and safely participate in this sport. The benefits received from training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can literally transform the practitioner physically.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instruction – BEST FULL BODY WORK OUT! WEIGHT LOSS!
At 46 when starting classes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I had already been hitting the gym regularly 5 times a week. However, participating in BJJ classes 3 times a week was reducing the number of times I worked out. Concern set in that less gym time would adversely affect overall strength and physique. It did not take long to see that my participation in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was the best all around full body work out an athlete could want.
Not only was I maintaining my strength and build while training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I had also lost those last few five to ten pounds that had been so hard to shed!!!! Since BJJ techniques require considerable core strength, a goal I had wanted to achieve in the gym became a reality when the long sought after “six pac” showed up. My work outs at the gym now became more focused on exercise that would enhance my BJJ training. I was in the best physical shape of my life.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instruction – FLEXIBILITY IMPROVEMENT!
Another physical benefit of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instruction invaluable to the guy over 40 is flexibility maintenance and improvement. In my years of gym training, I had neglected to work on flexibility. My loss of flexibility at first hindered my BJJ progress. However, the extensive stretching routine before class and flexibility drills during class designed to aid specific BJJ techniques were very quickly restoring flexibility that I thought would never again be attainable.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instruction – DRAMATICALLY IMPROVED CARDIO!
Improved cardio health may be the most valuable physical benefit of training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Enough can not be said about how significant good cardio is to success in BJJ. No matter where you are in terms of cardio shape when you begin training BJJ, your endurance will improve. Perhaps the most telling sign for me of my cardio supremacy occurred when I turned 50. My doctor thought a tread mill test would be in order. Upon second thought, he changed his mind noting my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instruction had most likely given me the heart and cardio of a man half my age!!!!!
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a very physically demanding sport. My experience is that with proper training, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instruction is the most physically beneficial activity that a guy over 40 can do.
