Houston MMA Fighters Yves Edward and Melvin Guillard Featured on the Card
Both Houston MMA fighters won convincingly at the UFC Fight for the Troops Saturday January 22, 2011 at Fort Hood Military Base.
The event was a fundraiser for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Funds, which specializes in rehabilitating wounded veterans suffering from brain injuries.
Proceeds from the event assist the veterans and their families cope with the difficulties they face after returning home form combat.
All of the athletes in attendance were honored to be part of such a noble endeavor.
At the conclusion of each fight, the competitors would gratefully pay their respects to the troops in attendance for their service to the country.
Houston MMA Fighter Melvin Guillard
Melvin had an outstanding performance and won via TKO in the 1st round. His unsurpassed athletic prowess and blazing speed mesmorized fans and made for a fantastic end to the main event.
Melvin is currently training under the Greg Jackson Camp in New Mexico, but not long ago he was a resident of Houston who relocated after the Hurricane Katrina Tragedy.

Yves has been on the Houston MMA scene since its inception and has fought in mixed martial arts competitions around the globe against the world’s best fighters. In this match he was able to use his experience and composure to whether the submission attempts of Jiu Jitsu expert Cody McKenzie who is known for his mastery of the choke.
His Guillotine choke has laid waste to many an opponent, however Yves was able to use his BJJ techniques to take McKenzie’s back and choke him unconscious in the 2nd round.

Having trained with Yves on many occasions I can attest that his ground game and submission defense is highly undrestimated and it was no surprise to see him win in such a decisive fashion. Great to see both fighters represent the Houston MMA scene on the world stage!
